Target group
The target group for the practice of De Wit Consultancy is divers. There are a lot of people from the creative sector who use alcohol and/or cocaine abusively. There is also a growing number of teens and young adults who over-use soft-drugs. Through sessions – with or without their parents – they also find a way to get out of their negative situation.
Profile De Wit Consultancy
De Wit Consultancy was founded on March 1st 2000 by Gust de Wit. I was born in Amsterdam in 1954 and I’m married.
After finishing my schooling as a registered nurse, I was employed for 16 years with addiction treatment services for the Geestelijke Gezondheids Zorg of the Amsterdam GGD (mental health-care service). I worked there in various capacities: as head of the unit and project leader.
Experience
In addition to my ample experience in patient care, I was also a member of various support commissions and national/international work groups specializing in addiction issues. I also followed courses and training sessions in the areas of counseling, management, incest and sexual violence. March 2002-October 2005 I served as councillor (spokesman Hotel and Catering Industry, Public Order and Safety) for the PvdA (labour party) in Amsterdam-Center City Council.
Part of my knowledge and experience in relation to substance dependency of drugs and alcohol came from my private life. Many of my friends and acquaintances started using LSD and opiates in the beginning of the 1970’s. For the last 25 years alcohol and cocaine are the substances I see people get into trouble with.
